Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made. ~ Roger Caras

Greyhound Pet Adoption Northwest is a Foster-home based adoption
program. All of the dogs we receive spend time in foster homes
before being adopted. This means that the dogs are familiar with an
in-home environment, have spent time walking on a leash, are
learning how to play with children and adults and have begun or
completed the house-training process.
We believe that this time in a foster home allows us to better
understand the nature and personality of each dog so that we can
recommend the right Greyhound for you and your home. Greyhounds have
unique lives before being adopted. The transition from racing and
their life in a kennel to being a pet and living in a home is
process that can only begin once they actually enter a home.
The dogs true personality comes out once they are in a home
environment. Our foster program allows that transition to begin and
the Greyhounds personality to blossom. It also allows you to see
what your new Greyhound is really like before you make the decision
to adopt. Selecting the right dog for your home and situation is the
most important thing we do as placement representatives. The more we
know about our dogs, the better our placements are. Greyhound Pet
Adoption Northwest is
the only Foster-based adoption program for Greyhounds in the
Northwest and we believe it makes a positive difference for you and
for the Greyhounds.
As you look at the available dogs on this page,
you will see notes about the dogs and their tolerance to cats. We
take great care to be sure that adoptive homes with cats will
receive a Greyhound that will not hurt or bother their feline
housemates.
We perform certain tests on every Greyhound in our program to learn
how it will react to being around cats and other small animals, such
as small dogs. This initial testing helps us categorize the
Greyhounds according to how well and how safely they can live with
cats in a home. After the testing is completed, the Greyhounds are
placed in foster homes that continue to work with them. We place
Greyhounds that tested tolerant of cats in foster homes that have
cats. This gives the Greyhound time to get used to living with a cat
and it helps us learn more about how well each dog will do in a home
with cats. While there are no guaranties on how a dog will react in
your home, this process has been very successful and helpful for our
adopters.
We categorize our Greyhounds by their ability to live safely with
cats. They usually fit into one of three categories,
Cat Tolerant - which means that the dog will tolerate living with a cat and leave it alone.
Workable - which means the dog should be trainable to leave the cats alone if the owner spends extra time in training.
NO Cats - which means we will not place the dog in a home with cats.
