The primary purpose of Greyhound Pets of America is to find responsible loving homes for Greyhounds, which fail to qualify or no longer qualify for the racetrack. Greyhound Pets of America acquaints the public with the desirability of greyhounds as pets and informs them of the availability of these dogs for adoption.
Our adoption process is one of matching the right Greyhound for you and your lifestyle. This can take some time but we believe it results in the best possible adoption and finding the perfect dog for you.
Why Adopt From GPA Northwest?
Greyhound Pets of America Northwest welcomes volunteers from all walks of life, regardless of whether they have adopted a Greyhound. All that is required is a love of animals, and a willingness to work.
A Greyhound that is awaiting adoption enters your life temporarily, sometimes for just a few days and sometimes for a few weeks. The average duration for a Greyhound in our foster program is 3 to 6 weeks, although some dogs have been in foster care for shorter or longer periods of time.
The fee that we charge for adoption of each Greyhound does not begin to cover our real costs to operate our program. Rather than decrease the level of care we give each and every Greyhound, we have chosen to reach out to the community and ask for their support. We have two funds that you can contribute to that will directly support the care of our Greyhounds and the GPA Northwest program. You can make a contribution here Online or send it via postal mail. Retired Racing Greyhounds Make Great Pets!
Greyhounds are affectionate & gentle. They make excellent companions for families, couples and singles. In general, most can learn to live with cats and small animals as well.
Retirement Day For New Greyhounds
We are receiving new dogs almost every week now so your help is needed to prepare them for their foster homes. We give each dog a good brushing, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning and new leash/collar set. After their baths, the dogs will settle into their temporary housing until they can be seen by the veterinarian for their usual surgery and treatments. Sponsor A Greyhound
The GPA Northwest Sponsorship program cares for Senior Greyhounds and Special Needs Greyhounds that are older or have complicated medical conditions. Because these Greyhounds require extra care, their stay in our foster homes may be longer than most. We accept any Greyhound in need, whether the dog was originally placed by GPA Northwest or not.
