Ace
2010 - 2020
Ace was the most perfect dog; quiet, sincere, loving, and silly. He was our first dog as a family and he set the bar high for big-guy-good-guys. He was the most perfect cuddle on a good or bad day; warm and grunty.
It is hard to believe he is no longer here, after a sudden and severe cancer diagnosis, but we think of him every day and miss him dearly.
-
Chelan
2008 - 2020
Our Dearest Chelan,
Thank you for “adopting us” and blessing us with all that was uniquely you. You completed the Williams family….provided an abundance of entertainment, calm and peace during stormy times, and always, always, always…LOVE! You were kind to EVERYONE…ALWAYS! We’re so thankful for the 7 years we had with you. You were “one of one”. We miss your infectious smile and your antics that made us laugh 🙂There won’t be a day that will go by that we won’t think fondly of you and give thanks for you, your warmth and your wonderful spirit. Until we meet again…. We will miss you Chelan.

Bella
2007 - 2019
You’ve had so many names in your life. you came to me as Sugarfree Laurel, or Laurel, as your foster Mom Jill called you. I took one look at you and you became my Bella, my beautiful Isabella, Bell, Bells, Funny Face, Honey Bunny. To your Sissy Erika you were her Pretty, Pretty Princess. To your little Sissy Kait you were her Belly Bean. To your Auntie Kim you were her Silly Diva Girl. You were loved by them all, and more. You were always there for me, and as we let you go we saw the love and thank you in your eyes. Now, as you begin your journey to Rainbow Bridge, Dad and I, all your family and friends, human and animal, will miss you, but now you are free to run and run and run. You can play squeaky with all those waiting for you…Nico, Mongo, Magic and Marley. Until we meet again at the bridge, you will remain forever in our hearts.
-
Django
2010 - 2019
Django (aka Slider/Landslide Drive) was the gentlest, most sweet pup that stole our hearts when we adopted him 6 years ago. He loved snoozing on the couch with us and going for long walks at 1000 acres dog park near Portland where we lived. In 2016 he became an international traveller when we moved from Portland to The Netherlands. He continued to enjoy long walks by canals and windmills. He’s given us such joy over the years he’s been our companion. There’s a Django shaped hole in our hearts. We will miss him so much.
-
Henry
2009 - 2019
Henry was my first dog and greyhound. Upon my first encounter with Henry, he walked up to my side and leaned in. In the 8 years to follow this is how it went, deliberate tender love. I will miss you so. Thank you for showing me how to be.
-
Molly
2008 - 2019
To our Molly, (aka our Diva, our Wild Woman, our Baby Smaug):
Words will never be able to convey how much we loved you, how much you made us laugh, and how much we miss you. The house is quiet, boring and lifeless without your giant presence. It hurts to not hear your noisy hero’s welcome when we come home from work, to not be able to share carrot trimmings with you when I’m making dinner, and to not feel your paw insistently tapping us when you want to be petted. Life will never be the same without you. We love you. Then, now and always.

Sadie

She was more than any mere words can describe. She is so missed by all!!!. There isn’t one day that goes by where we don’t think of her smile and grace. God bless you my fierce but so very loving and sweet little girl. Thank you so much for all the joy and love you gave us. Forever our baby girl. God bless you all for your lost as well. Duelly
2005 - 2016
Duelly joined our family August of 2009. He loved to run and had a favorite sand pile in the backyard to dig in. Duelly enjoyed visitors and trained the FedEx delivery man to bring him treats. He was a wonderful companion and will be missed by all of us.
-
Millie
2004 - 2016
Millie started off as a painfully shy omega greyhound but got more secure over time following her alpha adopted sister Annie around. She was usually quiet and reserved but once she learned to trust in someone, she was an incredibly sweet hound. After her alpha sister Annie passed away, she grew more comfortable in herself and even more of her beautiful personality shone through. In the end, Millie’s kidney cancer was taking a severe toll on her and I had to send her across the rainbow bridge. I will always miss my sweet Millie!
-
Miss Speedy
2005 - 2016
On April 7, 2008 Miss Speedy and Jake were adopted by Laura. The three of them became fast friends, and Laura was “ruined” for any other breed of dog. Greyhounds become such a way of life, you can just never go back to any other! Speedy was sweet and very timid at first, but with lots of new people and experiences she began coming out of her shell. At home where she was most comfortable, she even became the bossy baby sister to Jake…and he just looked at her and let her call the shots.
Miss Speedy came into my (David’s) life in December 2013 When I married her Pack Leader. She was great and loving with the grandkids. She loved the toys we bought for her and Jake. Jake would always let her have the toys. I will really miss my nightly kisses from you Miss Speedy.
We both have a greyhound-sized hole in our hearts just aching to be filled. You will never be forgotten.
-
Neko Fletchall
2006 - 2016
Our sweet boy left us on Dec. 21, 2016, for a better place with no pain, where he could run and play to his heart’s delight. He brought us so much joy and happiness thru the years that he came to live with us. He loved all his walks, his trips to the beach, all the camping trips, riding in the car and motor home. He loved all his toys, especially “Graffi” as we called his giraffe. Neko would always let either of us know when anyone came to the door, and when either of us came home, always with great joy at the sight of anyone, because of course they came to see him. He loved the Fed Ex delivery lady. He would climb into her truck to make sure she didn’t forget the treats!!!
We miss our boy so much and he truly left a big hole in our hearts. We love you Neko!!! -
Sea
2009 - 2016

-
Dash
2005 - 2015
We miss you terribly, Dash (the dog on the right). You were our first grey and made us forever fall in love with the breed. You were big and funny and filled our house with your antics – shredding any kind of bag, forever stealing my slippers, your love of apples and your complete excitement in anticipation of a walk. Our house is too quiet now, but we know your trip over the Rainbow Bridge brings you endless romps with your friends and lots of treats.

Twila
2002 - 2015
Sweet Twila passed away this August. Twila was with me for her retired life. She enjoyed walks and nap time, lots of nap times. She was kind and sweet with my family and friends. One of her favorite places was Cannon Beach. She really did enjoy long walks on the beach.
I miss her greeting me at the door when I get home from work. However, I know now she is pain free and happy.
Thank you Greyhound Pets Adoption Northwest for all that you did for Twila and for all the other wonderful greyhounds.

Amos
2014
Amos passed away on Sept. 22nd. He was a rangy Red Brindle with brown ears that seemed too small for his head, with a great heart, who loved living at the beach. We will have a place in our hearts, always. John and Diana.
-
Annie
2003 - 2014
Annie (former kennel name Tiger, racing name Iruska Mochamint) was a very loving and social (yet vocal and opinionated!) greyhound. She was a popular “ambassadog” for greyhound adoption. After a long battle with very aggressive bladder cancer, Annie crossed the rainbow bridge on 11/22/2014. Annie spent most of her adopted time with her adopted younger sister Millie (who is still with us.) She is already missed!

He will always hold a special spot in our hearts.
-
Flint Stone
2005 - 2014
Flint (Elrod) came into our lives in March of 2009. What a beautiful dark brindle he was!
Flint was so sweet, he was loved by everyone. Flint always ruled with such quiet dignity–standing peacefully over Chloe or later, Coach. Flint was so patient with Coach as a puppy. I nicknamed Flint my “zen dog” for I really grew to appreciate his calm nature. Flint and Coach had so much fun playing together–they were true brothers. I should have known something was wrong when during that last week, Coach would lie down and lick Flint’s face with intensity; I now realize he was trying to make Flint well. After Flint’s blood work and then an ultrasound, we were given the bad news: Flint had generalized lymphosarcoma and the doctor gave him several days to several weeks to live. John and I chose to let Flint go. We had Compassionate Care come out and give Flint peace.
Flint was very much loved and will be missed by so many… John and Kathy. -
Jake
2002 - 2014
An open letter to Jake
We wanted to thank you for sharing your life with us. We know every story has a beginning and an end – it’s what happens between the first sentence and the last that is important.
You were so photogenic, and every picture of you made you seem regal; but we knew better: you weren’t the king, you were the jester. Bouncing up stairs, running to your bed each night and wriggling on you back with paws waving at the ceiling (you really looked forward to that memory-foam bed). Answering every singing truck with your own song (we can’t now hear a fire truck without thinking of you).
You visited countless homes and dozens of meets and greets as an ambassador for all greyhounds. How many who met you wanted this “floor model”? You loved people petting you, you loved children, and you shamelessly doted on your mother. Now that you have unwillingly left us, know we miss you and thank you for sharing your story with us. Your bed right now is full of memory foam. Sleep well, Jake.
-
Misty
2005 - 2014
Misty came into our lives in 2010 at the age of 5. We spoiled her rotten just as she deserved and she gave us unconditional love. She crossed over the rainbow bridge on October 14th of this year, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, say goodbye to my sweet baby girl. We thought it was just her knee but it was cancer, osteosarcoma. She was 9 1/2 yrs old, I never left her side, I was with her till the end. I miss her so much, she was our first greyhound and when I’m ready I will welcome another greyhound into my home, life and heart. RIP Misty (morning dew) 2005-2014
We love you ♡ -

Your surrogate mom and dad, Nancy and John, miss you too and are so thankful to have loved and cared for you.

Kalahari
2009 - 2013
If tonight to the bridge you must go Just remember how I loved you so Your pain, your suffering, I hope it goes away If you cannot heal, I will not ask you to stay Three days, that’s all it took for me to fall The beating of your heart as loud as a siren call Your soft fur, your wagging tail, your painted face As beautiful still as you must have been in a race Grace and beauty, stolen by swift and sure pain If you leave us, may the clouds cry their bittersweet rain But I shall not mourn you, not too long, no Because I know that if you leave, then you had to go And all that I ask is when you reach that rainbow place Be happy, my friend, my Desert Man with the painted face.
Life is not about the breaths you take, but about the moments that take your breath away.

Kobe Collins
2000 - 2010
Now is all you have. Appreciate the divinity of this moment.
I read this bit of inspiration on the side of a band tour bus heading into Portland and its’ meaning really had an impact on me. Enough of one that I try every day to appreciate the simple moments and experiences in life. Kobe had it figured out way before I did.
Kobe lived life the best way . . . he LIVED it. Jumping high after a tossed frisbee. Whole-body smiling out on a daily walk. Head hanging out the car window to feel the wind on his face. Playing tug with this favorite bear toy and later using it as a pillow. He knew how to enjoy all of the little pleasures of life. I was lucky to be able to share many of those moments with him. He was my reminder to slow down and appreciate the divinity of THAT moment.
He was also my reminder of the importance of unconditional love. That despite my imperfections, he always looked past that and accepted me without judgement. And even though Kobe is physically gone from my life, he will always be with me, inspiring me to be the best version of myself.

Phoenix Strausbaugh
1997 - 2010
We adopted Phoenix in six years ago. She was the smallest and quietest of our three Greyhounds, but the most patient and affectionate. She never overwhelmed you, but she would follow us around the house- she wanted to be near you.
Wherever she is, we say: go on a walk Phoenix, run Phoenix, catch those flies with your mouth, sit in your favorite chair, jump on the bed, sit on your haunches and shake your front paw in the air, eat your biscuit or just protect it, ride in the car and stick your head out the window. Do whatever you want- you’re free. You were a good dog, and a better friend. You’ll be missed.
-

Phoenix Vookles
2004 - 2009
Some may remember Phoenix from his ‘special needs’ story on the GPA web site many years ago. He had broken his leg as a puppy and been saved from euthanasia by his Vet & GPA Northwest.
I remembered him instantly when I saw him at a GPA event and took him home forever at 18 months. Unfortunately, forever was too short. He was diagnosed with a sarcoma shortly after he turned 4 (not the leg that had been broken). He did very well initially and thrived on three legs.
Unfortunately, the sarcoma returned. He died just over 1 year later; however, I wanted everyone to know that he did well on three legs. My vet said dogs had 3 legs plus a spare, and she was right.
